It's been one year, since we got to hold the olympic torch. But that has not been our only milestone in Canada...
Es hat schon viele Meilensteine hier gegeben für uns - der erste Job, das erste Mal hören, wie die Kinder Englisch miteinander sprechen, der erste Angelausflug und dabei gleich der erste Weißkopfseeadler. Dann natürlich nicht zu vergessen das erste eigene Haus, das erste Mal -35°C und das erste Weihnachten in Kanada...
Ich kann gar nicht sagen, welcher Meilenstein der wichtigste war, aber einer war was ganz Besonderes: der Fackellauf und die olympischen Winterspiele im letzten Jahr.
Ein Jahr ist es her, dass die Fackel durch Merritt kam und wir waren hautnah dabei. Die Begeisterung war unbeschreiblich und absolut ansteckend. Wer die Fußball-WM 2006 in Deutschland erlebt hat, weiß was ich meine - nur dass es anstatt schwarz-rot-gold eben rot-weiß und mit Ahornblatt war.
Für zwei Wochen herrschte der Ausnahmezustand - Olympiade rund um die Uhr. Im Fernsehen, im Radio und natürlich live.
Und als Alexandre Bilodeau die erste kanadische Goldmedallie auf Heimatboden geholt hat, habe ich mich sogar das erste Mal ein bißchen kanadisch gefühlt!
There have been quite a few milestones, since we've been in Canada - the first job, hearing my kids talk English to each other for the first time, the first fishing trip (and the first bald eagle right along with it). Of course there was also our very first own house, -35°C for the first time and the first Christmas...
I can't even really say which milestone was the most important one for us, but one of them was very special: the torch relay and Winter Olympics last year.
It's been one year since the torch came through Merritt and the Winter Olympics started in Vancouver - and we were right there to witness it all! You could practically feel the enthusiasm and it was absolutely contagious. Anybody who was in Germany during the 2006 FIFA world cup knows what I am talking about - just that it was not black, red and gold this time, but red and white with the maple leaf. For two weeks, all you could hear, see and breathe was Olympics - on TV, on the radio and of course live.
And when Alexandre Bilodeau won the first Canadian gold metal on home soil, I felt a little bit Canadian myself for the first time!
